In 1999, convinced of the need for creativity in the field of block printing, and with his extensive experience in wallpaper, François-Xavier Richard combined his technical knowledge and his talent as a painter, sculptor and engraver to give birth to the Atelier d'Offard. Thus was created the first and only manufacturer of custom wallpaper, in the heart of France, in Saumur. The Workshop d'Offard has since become a major contributor to the revival of a craft neglected since the mid-twentieth century, exploring new avenues of design and application, and acting as a proponent in the education and resurrection of ancient block printing techniques.

Maintaining a faithful reproduction of historic documents, workshop Offard designs and creates traditional block printed wallpapers adhering in every detail to those produced by the great factories which emerged in the eighteenth century. Through printing, embossing, gilding, wool flocking, patina; and the application of varnishes, foil and mineral powders, papers can be reconstructed, or newly created, from historic documents fragments, photos, or sketches.

The rediscovery of traditional methods, integrated with modern production and contemporary tools, enables the Workshop Offard to recreate all manner of styles and designs, while remaining faithful to the original appearance of the product, as it existed in the eighteenth century.
